Drum Circle @ Malcolm X Park

Drum Circle DC

Drum Circle Sundays are always a vibe, almost like the orchestration of a beautiful song. The drums provide the bassline, the heartbeat; steel, bass, congos & snares. The people establish the landscape, they act as the chorus; the dancing, the singing & the coexistence of people of all cultures. But the the piece that transforms this park into a space that people continue to flood Sunday after Sunday is probably the most important factor. It allows Malcolm X Park to appeal to such a large variety of ethnicities despite religious & political beliefs.

The key to Drum Circle Sunday's is the fact that this 12 acre plot of land is judgement free while the music plays. It's almost an unspoken law established by the music gods, keeping the peace and most respectful of vibes throughout the day. All are safe, all are welcome and most importantly, it is the perfect space for human interaction. You never know who you will meet at Drum Circle, what lessons you may leave with when you enter with an open-mind or how your perspective will change if you don't. This space is truly an example of the power of music and also how we can all coexist with each other when the barriers that society creates are removed. Unfortunately when we leave that space, we are thrown back into the negative space that real life exists in. What's amazing is that as soon as it's over, you're once again waiting for the next week's vibe to begin.
