The NoBra Club

surfaced towards the end of the Tumblr era, at a time when the censorship of the internet began to stifle the rising artistic and creative expressions of the youth in society, or at least that’s when I found them across my screen. At the same time, Arsenic was on a consistent hot streak with titillating content that continuously broke the internet before the Kardashian’s coined the term.

We had enough of the old thought process that nudity was foul and unbecoming and began to embrace our own sexuality in more artistic ways, as well as the acceptance of the way others chose to express themselves.

As a Black man at the beginning of my photography career, I was confused at why such freedom of expression was reserved for everyone except Black women. There was still a large stigma, even within our own community that nude was a “no-no” and as a partial exhibitionist and connoisseur of all things beautiful myself, I surely wanted to make sure there was space for our Queens as well.

This was my first real targeted shoot towards NBC. As a huge fan of past fashion photographers like the Helmut Newton’s, the Peter Lindbergh’s, the Mario Testino’s of the world, I myself, always try to infuse a bit of fashion and style into my “boudoir” shots and Muka was the perfect person to execute that vision with.
